Frequently Asked Questions

• How long have you been doing this?
  The placement of flags has been going on for several years, originally with an out of state entity. People who have been involved with the placement since the beginning took over the opportunity to honor our veterans. The local group's (Military Honor Flags) first placement was in 2021.
• What do I need to bring to place the flags?
  Bring a ruler and a screwdriver (5” or 6” long shaft) to place a hole 12 inches from the center of the headstone for placement of the flag, read the honorees name and say “We honor you and your service. Thank you.”
• What if it rains?
  Rain or shine flags will be placed. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing.
• Where does my donation go? 
  Your donation is used to purchase and replace flags, communications, storage, and transportation of flags.
• What days do we place and remove flags?
  The flags are placed on the Sunday before Memorial Day starting at 9:00 a.m. and removal is on the following Wednesday 7:30 a.m. At Hot Springs National Cemetery, placement is Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 9 a.m. and removal is Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 4 p.m.
• Who will guide us? 
  We have trained volunteers in each section to give instructions and answer questions. 
• How long does it take to place and remove the flags?
  Placement of flags only takes around two hours, but volunteers can donate as much time as they can. Removal of flags is usually the same.
